Marlborough and Lord Townshend to St John: the states [general] and the ministers of the princes concerned in the guarantee are alarmed at the declaration of the king of Sweden. The queen and the states will employ the eight battalions of Palatines in their service to uphold the guarantee. Letters from the states [SP 87/6/2] and themselves [SP 87/6/3] to the elector Palatine are enclosed. The [grand] pensionary has been informed of the misfortunes of the Dutch men of war.
