Marlborough to Secretary St John: he has received St John's letter informing him of Boyle's resignation and St John's appointment. He expects soon to hear the result of the meeting of the lords of the committee of council regarding reinforcements to be sent from Italy to Spain. There is little hope of the empire sending the 2,000 cavalry, although King Charles [III]'s minister continues to request them. He has told the duke of Argyll of the queen's command for his immediate return home, and has asked d'Harcourt for a pass for him. Part of the French household troops are marching to winter quarters. Dated at camp before Aire. ff. 282, 283
