Description

Marlborough to Boyle: humane treatment of the allied garrison of Ypres. Marshal d'Harcourt has relieved de Villars. Failure of an attack on the fort d'Escarpe by M. de Luxembourg. Sir Robert Sutton has reported that the grand vizier has been deposed, and that the king of Sweden will likely winter again at Bender [Tighina, Moldova]. The king of Spain [Charles III] has entered Madrid and the duke of Anjou [Philip V] retired towards Valladolid. Dated at camp at St André. ff. 270-272
