Admiral Sir John Norris to Marlborough: landing of the troops under Major General Seissan and capitulation of Sète and Agde. Moves to forestall the duke of Roquelaure's advance from Languedoc. A council of war decided to move into Sète and defend it. A further council of war, of which he encloses the proceedings [SP 87/5/117], decided to attack Agde. The troops were embarked but Seissan then received intelligence that the duke of Nouailles and the duke of Berwick were advancing, and a council of war [enclosed] [SP 87/5/118] agreed to debark the troops for the defence of Sète. With the duke of Noualles and the duke of Roquelaure advancing on Sète with superior forces, the town was abandoned and the troops embarked. Norris commends Seissan and is confident that they would have been successful with more troops. Imprisonment of Seissan's relations. Dated aboard the Ranelagh in Varia Bay. ff. 241, 242
