Marlborough to Boyle: advance of the duke of Württemberg and Prince Eugene, and retreat of Marshal de Montesquieu across the Scarpe at Vitry. Marlborough has crossed at the same place and begun the investment [of Douai]. The deputies of Artois have asked for the queen's protection. The Hessians and Palatines are still beyond the Rhine. M. Palinquist's offer to supply Swedish troops for the queen's service. There would be no advantage in a treaty with the king of Poland. Dated at camp at Goeulzin. ff. 133-135
