Adam Cardonnel to Under Secretary George Tilson: he encloses an extract of a letter from Captain Martin in Paris, with a copy of one to him from M. Chamillart about the treatment of the Irish prisoners in Newgate. Marlborough is of the opinion that money should not be paid to the gaolers and wishes Secretary [Boyle] to give an answer. Dated at camp at Rouselare. Continuation on 13 October: the postillion has been delayed by having to evade the French. He is sorry Mr. Steele is being blamed for what he put into the Gazette about the siege [of Lille]. 500 barrels of powder have been brought from Ostend. ff. 139-142
