Description

Stepney to Adam Cardonnel, regarding the loan of 700,000 florins by the states [general] to the king of Spain, to be raised by import, export and postal duties in the Spanish Netherlands: he calculates that the duties are more than sufficient to fulfil the obligations, but speculates that the Dutch might lay claim to Ostend in the case of default. f. 712
