Marlborough to Prince Eugene (extract): he has not written about the 3,000 men the emperor [Joseph I] has offered for Catalonia because the estimates for the continuation of the war in Spain have only that day been presented to parliament. The queen is prepared to bear the expense of the reinforcements provided that [William Richard] Chetwynd, her resident in Genoa is informed in time to provide the ships. She will also bear the cost of bringing the imperial troops in Spain up to strength. ff. 665, 666
