Marlborough to Harley: the duke of Savoy has much to complain of about the court of Vienna. Some new measures must be found for the war in Spain. Letters from Vienna indicate the emperor [Joseph I] does not contemplate a separate peace with France. King Augustus's pretentions to the kingdom of Naples are to be discouraged. He encloses a letter [SP 87/2/320] from [Hans Kaspar von] Bothner, the elector of Hanover's minister at The Hague, requesting that the regiment of dragoons serving the queen and the states [general] should join him at the same rate of pay. He has written a discouraging reply [SP 87/2/321] and informed the [grand] pensionary. The emperor [Joseph I] has decided to send Count Wratislaw to the king of Sweden. Dated at camp at Meldert. ff 655-658
