Marlborough [to Nottingham]: he congratulates him on the good news from Portugal. Stanhope has been directed to press the states [general] to supply their share of the 12,000 men. If the archduke and the 12,000 men can be in Portugal by September, he thinks the allies should go on the defensive [in Flanders]. He will march when he hears that Cohorn is in motion.
