Marlborough [to Nottingham]: he has consulted with the [grand] pensionary, who is against raising Swiss troops for Italy, and fears that the emperor [Leopold I] would neglect the Rhine and elsewhere for Italy. His esteem for Sir Christopher Musgrave; he hopes [Nottingham] has acquainted the lord treasurer with the matter. As soon as he has agreed the quota of 10,000 men with the elector of Hanover he will go to the army. Dated at The Hague. PS. his service to the lord privy seal [John Sheffield, marquess of Normanby]. ff. 3, 4
