George Stepney to Sir William Trumbull [secretary of state]: failure of the Jesuit party at the imperial court to secure a separate peace for Italy. The emperor [Leopold I] will accept any town in the United Provinces for the treaty negotiations except The Hague or Utrecht. Criticisms of Callières in the congress. Continuing dispute between Palatine and Hessian troops. There will be an imperial conference in December to discuss a standing army. Mr. Ham [Dutch envoy to Brandenburg] is leaving for Berlin. Prince of Conti's offers for the Polish crown. Dated at The Hague. ff. 224, 225
