Description

George Stepney to Sir William Trumbull [secretary of state]: Lord Portland has gone to Cleves [with regard to the proposed marriage between the king and the princess of Brandenburg]. Refers Trumbull to Lord Villiers for details of the peace. Stepney gives full details of the French peace proposals as expounded by the [grand] pensionary. Reactions of the imperial and Spanish plenipotentiaries. Sweden to be the mediator. The difficulty of choosing a location for the negotiations. Actions of the duke of Saxony [against the Turks].
