Description

Mauritius: 'Correspondence relating to Indian immigrants in Mauritius and its dependencies.' Includes: a copy of Ordinance No. 31 of 1867; despatches, returns and statistics relating to suicides, mortalities, conditions of Indian immigrants, etc, especially on sugar estates; stipendiary magistrates half-yearly returns; petitions from Indian immigrants regarding alleged suffering and grievances, including personal submissions from a number of 'old immigrants'; reports and submissions from the Immigration Committee of the Council of Government and draft of ordinance for the appointment of inspectors of immigrants. Also includes annexure providing details of immigration legislation for other colonies (Jamaica, British Guiana, St Lucia, St Vincent, Grenada, Trinidad, Antigua). (105 pages)
