Arrangement

The registers are arranged in alphabetical order of county, county boroughs being included under the appropriate counties. It should be noted, however, that the city of Bristol is listed after Gloucestershire; Carnarvon is so spelled; Hampshire is listed as Hants from 1805 to 1837 but thereafter as Southampton; London is listed with Middlesex; Shropshire is listed as Shropshire from 1805 to 1808 but thereafter as Salop; Monmouth is treated as an English county throughout; Welsh counties are listed separately after English counties from 1805 to 1814 and from 1855 onwards, but with the English counties between 1815 and 1854.
