The Interdepartmental Committee on House Construction was formed in 1942, under the chairmanship of Sir George Burt, by the Minister of Health, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Minister of Works and Planning "to consider materials and methods of construction suitable for the building of houses and flats, having regard to efficiency, economy and speed of erection, and to make recommendations for post-war practice in the light of all relevant findings of the Study Committees co-ordinated by the Directorate of Post-War Building of the Ministry of Works and Planning".
