Description

Files of the Local Government Board and the Ministry of Health relating to general planning schemes of local authorities and joint planning committees, interim development and related matters. The working plans of individual schemes have so far as possible been associated with the files.

Arrangement
Arrangement

These files are grouped into four sequences, reflecting different types of authority responsible for the planning schemes:

  • County Councils (local authorities 651 to 713);
  • County Borough, Borough and Urban District Councils, with some Town and City Councils (local authorities 714 to 1869);
  • Rural District Councils (local authorities 1870 to 2518);
  • Joint Committees (local authorities JC-1 to JC-356).

Each sequence is in local authority number order; except for the Joint Committees, these numbers mainly follow alphabetical order. Some files are out of sequence at the end of the series. There are no files for some local authorities.

Files relating to a particular local authority are in order of planning scheme number. These numbers usually start from 501 onwards. In some cases there is more than one file for the same scheme. A letter suffix may indicate the subject matter:

  • A: Preliminary Statement;
  • B: Scheme;
  • D: Inquiries;
  • E: Appeals under Interim Development Orders;
  • F: Compulsory Puchase Orders;
  • L: Approvals under Article 4b:, General Interim Development Order, 1933;
  • M: Miscellaneous correspondence;
  • N: Contravention of Scheme Appeals;
  • P: Appeals under operative schemes;
  • Q: Relaxation of Byelaws under General Interim Development Order, 1933;
  • R: Agreements;
  • S: Orders under operative schemes;
  • T: Approval of type of streets under operative schemes;
  • V: Appropriations of Local Authorities' Land;
  • W: Valuation;
  • Z: Records: operative schemes.
