The Committee of Enquiry on Pressure Vessels (CEPV), which was appointed in December 1966 by the Minister of Technology "to recommend ways of improving pressure vessel technology, including standards, design and manufacture". S4 provided the Joint Secretaries to the CEPV. Following submission of the CEPV's report to the Minister of Technology in July 1968, S4 co-ordinated publication of the report and considered policy on the report's recommendations. Volume One of the report, summarising the CEPV'S findings and making a number of recommendations affecting the structure and technology of the industry, was published in January 1969; the recommendations included the establishment of a Pressure Vessel Authority. Volume Two, containing appendices of supporting evidence, was to be published in June 1969.
