The instance minute books in this series are of the High Court of Admiralty, and, from November 1875, of the Admiralty courts of the High Court of Justice.
The books contain brief notes to all the proceedings in instance cases, entered under its reference number. Particulars of all documents filed, and of all decrees and orders of the court are also given. Until 1918 each volume has its own index of ships' names. The transactions recorded in these instance minute books are detailed more fully than in the corresponding cause books.
