This statutory committee operated under the conditions set out in paragraph 83 of the Potato Marketing Scheme (Approval) Order 1955 (SI 1955/690).
Its function was to ensure compliance by producers with the powers and resolutions of the Board by hearing cases of non-compliance and imposing appropriate penalties.
It was composed of four to six Board members, with an independent chairman who was a barrister, advocate or solicitor of not less than seven years standing. Any accused producer had the right to appear before the Committee and be heard in person or through counsel or solicitor. Should the producer have been penalised, the producer had the right to refer the matter to arbitration.
