Administrative / biographical background

This statutory committee was constituted by the Board under paragraph 25(1) of the Potato Marketing Schemes 1933 and 1955 (SI 1933/1186 and 1955/690), and consisted of not more than twelve representatives of such organisations as the Board considered best qualified to express the views of retailers and of persons who bought potatoes for the purpose of using them in some process of manufacture or selling them in a cooked state. From 1990 the Committee consisted of ten such representatives and not more than two Board members.

The Retailers' Committee appointed four (from 1990, three) members of the Joint Consultative Committee.

The Committee was suspended 1940-1954.
