The Vehicles and Mechanical Engineering Products Division (EP) was established in the Ministry of Technology (Mintech) in 1967, replacing the Mechanical Engineering Products Division. The Division continued in the first Department of Trade and Industry, using the same name but was then referred to as the VME Division rather than EP. In 1972 VME Division was merged with the Machine Tools and Manufacturing Machinery Division, forming a new Mechanical Engineering Division (M). The Division was concerned with the sponsorship of the motor industry and mechanical engineering products.
