The first Work Plan was drawn up in a time of organisational change and change in the environment. The Plan outlined English Nature's three main themes as: increasing the priority for nature conservation in public policies; enabling others to conserve nature; enhancing the nature conservation value of the whole environment in England.
From the third Plan onwards (1993-1994) the contents of the Work Plans are derived from English Nature's Corporate Plans and the operational plans produced by Teams. The Work Plans translate English Nature's business and organisational development strategies into an operational plan for the year ahead.
The Plans set out English Nature's view of some of the changes affecting nature conservation; strategic direction and priorities; planned use of resources; projected outputs and performance; efficiency and other initiatives.
