The Nature Conservancy Council was established by the Nature ConservancyCouncilAct in 1973. It replaced the Nature Conservancy which was establishedby RoyalCharter in 1949. In 1991, following the passage of the EnvironmentalProtectionAct 1990 and the Natural Heritage (Scotland) Act 1991, the NatureConservancyCouncil was divided into three. The English part became EnglishNature.
