A United Kingdom Delegation to the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community was established in 1953. This became a delegation to the European Communities in 1959. When the UK joined the three European Communities on 1 January 1973, the name of the delegation was changed to the Office of the United Kingdom Permanent Representative to the European Communities.
