Some notebooks have suffered from insect infestation and damp due to the storage conditions.
The Shanghai court records were discovered by the Chinese authorities in c. 1981 in the old Consulate-General building where they had been deposited for safe keeping on the approval of the Chinese Red Army in c.1949.
