This series contains the texts of agreements concluded by European Communities (some being signed by the member states separately) with third countries (ie non-member states). The series was started when the United Kingdom became a member in 1973 and includes a number of pre-accession agreements inherited by the United Kingdom. A few pre-date UK membership of the European Economic Community.
Treaties comprising FO 974/3, 6, 8-11, 13, 17-20, 26, 30, 35-36, 38-39, 44, 50 and 67/1 were erroneously allocated PRO piece numbers in 1981/2. The treaties do not physically exist as no certified copy was sent from Brussels for the UK to keep. A copy of the treaty probably exists in Brussels. These pieces have been described as "Number not now used" .
