The Consulate at Varna ((known as Stalin, 1949-1956) on the Black Sea was established in 1847. In 1866 it was moved to Rustchuk on the Danube where it remained until December 1877 when fighting in the area forced a return to Varna. When peace returned the Consulate was re-established at Rustchuk, but was soon downgraded to a Vice-Consulate which lasted until 1896 when it became a Consulate once more.
