From 1982 Foreign and Commonwealth Office
William Gifford Palgrave, was appointed agent and consul-general to Bulgaria on 20 June 1879. He was replaced on 26 November 1879 by Frank C. Lascelles. The agency became a legation in 1908 with George Buchanan as Minister. In 1964 the legation became an embassy with William Harpham as Ambassador.
