Folios 68-69. Criminals. Reports. Reports or Certificates of Judges, chiefly addressed to the King on the cases of criminals. Name of judge: Fortescue. Name of criminal: Gunner, Lewis. Crime: Felony. Sentence: [Death] Where tried or confined: Winchester. Condition of pardon Transportation. Remarks: The prisoner was convicted on the statute commonly called the Black Act for shooting at the prosecutor, but the evidence was doubtful & the judge reprieved him not thinking him worthy of death.
