Description

Folios 154-155. [Newcastle] from Kensington to Carteret. Acknowledges his Excellency's letters of the 1st. and 4th. instant for the filling up of several vacancies in the army. The King has signed commissions for the persons recommended but observes that it is not mentioned whether these gentlemen are in the army or on the half-pay list and desires that these particulars may be given in future. Encloses Colonel Hawley's petition for allowing ten non-effectives in each company of his regiment for a twelve month and applying their pay to the providing of a new set of the best arms. His Majesty thinks this proposal very reasonable and good for the service and is therefore pleased to grant his request. Foul draft.
