Folios 144-145. Bishop of Lincoln from Buckden to [Newcastle]. I have received your grace's letter with Mr. Attorney's learned strictures on the affair of the Chapter of Lincoln. But I cannot duely express my wonder at my letters coming to your Grace's hands otherwise than thro' the hands of my son, the Archdeacon of Lincoln; for, into his pacquet it was put, to be by him presented to your Grace, and he received his pacquet without that letter, of which, after the most diligent inquiry, I am unable to give any further account. It would have been a very great satisfaction to me to have gad your Grace's advice for my direction in so nice a case as this is. But since I am not to be so happy, it shall by my care to keep clear of the appeal in motion, if it is possible.
