Folios 160-163. Customs from Customhouse, London to Townshend. They are informed by their solicitor that a pardon has been granted to William Jackson and John Horlock, two of their officers at Plymouth, on account of the death of De Putron, master of a smuggling vessel, which case was fully set forth in a memorial from the Commissioners to the Treasury, copy of which is enclosed, The other officers, vizt: Robert Hawker, Richard May, John Kempthorne, Edward Volpee, Thomas Welch and Peter Bernard are to take their trial for this fact at the next assizes for the county of Devon and it is desired that the judges may be directed to stop the execution of any sentence that may be passed in case they shoud be convicted either of manslaughter or murder.
