Folios 155-156. Letter, without date or signature, to the Keeper of the Paper Office enclosing a memorial and desiring that ---- may have free access to the Paper Office to enable the persons concerned to complete the new edition of Buchanan's History in Latin. The Memorial is undated and unsigned. It states that in order to refute the preface of the late edition of Buchanan's works in folio, which was designed to disgrace the actings of those who carried on the Reformation in Scotland, to discredit the fidelity of the great Buchanan and to injure the character of Queen Elizabeth, some gentlemen in Scotland have employed themselves to collect materials to vindicate "those worthy patriots" and have resolved to publish a new edition of Buchanan's history in Latin with a preface, but before doing so they find it necessary to consult authentic manuscripts in the famous libraries and repositories in London.
