Folios 116-117. William Snelling to the same. Represents in obedience to his Grace's commands that a ship with which he is concerned called the Ramsgate frigate laden with corn from the Archipeligo to Lisbon was refused permission to perform quarantine at Port Maom (Mahon) by the governor there, altho' the ship brought a certificate from Smyrna importing that the plague had ceased upwards of 40 days and that the said city and adjacent parts were free from the contagion. She was however admitted at Lisbon and allowed to discharge her cargo. At Gibraltar also there is not that regard paid to our ships from the Levant as in the ports of foreign princes, as in the case of the Olive Branch which tho' in distress was refused permission to land her cargo at Gibraltar and had to proceed at hazard to Lisbon. He is able to give many instances of the like nature and is of opinion that is is a matter worthy of his grace's cognizance.
