Description

Folios 97-98. Minutes of proceedings [at a conference between] Mons. Broglie, Lord Townshend and the Duke of Newcastle. To send Mons. Broglie a copy of the paper about titles with the Elector Palatine. Proposed in the 2nd. article to add "soit par des contributions, passages et logemens de gens de guerre". The King wishes those words were not added, but will do what the Dutch do in it. In the article about Mecklenbergh to add the words "Legitemes pretentions". Not possible to put in the article as it is now turned, besides leaving to the Electors to interpret as they please. The Declaration as now altered about Bergh and Juliers. Mons. de Broglie proposes that the King should be engaged to pay the share of the subsidy to the Elector of Bavaria in case of war, and the share of the subsidy to the Elector of Cologne [?for] three years. the King is ready to pay the Elector of Cologne, but nothing to the Elector of Bavaria which the King [supposes] will be paid by Spain. The proportion to the Elector of Cologne is the half of 3000 florins, which makes [?300 or 600] thousand livres for the King's share pendant la duree du dit engagement. In the article about the Elector [of] Bavaria leave out [? S.M.B.]
