Description

Folios 62-64. [Newcastle] from Kensington to Townshend. Acknowledges his lordship's letter of 4th. instant and enclosed copies of the following:- A translation of the King of Sweden's letter to his secretary, Mon. Skutenhielm notifying the re-establishment of his friendship with the King of Poland, as elector of Saxony. A letter from Lord Marchmont with a copy of one that has come to his hand from a secret correspondent. A letter from the Admiralty with one fronm Captain Forrester, commander of H.M.S. Dursley Galley, in which he gives an account of the extraordinary behaviour towards him of the Governor of Vera Cruz, which, he hears, in interpreted in the city, as a refusal of the Spaniards to deliver up the Prince Frederick. Her Majesty considering that we are in hourly expectation of an answer from Spain, thought it would be better to defer making the complaint till the next post, by which time we must, in all probability know how matters stand with Spain. Address from the council of North Carolina containing complaints of a very extraordinary nature against Sir Richard Everard, their Governor. Letters from Consul Cayley, Mr. Walton, Consul Bagshaw and two secret ones. Foul draft.
