Folios 93-95. William Marsland, Peter Jaffree, Aaron Lambe, Daniel Cabrol, Richard Woolley, Watkinson Wildman and Nathaniel Marshall to the King. Petition for letters patents to empower them to erect an office in London to carry on an insurance for poor persons against sickness and lameness. In the proposals annexed it is stated that all sorts of people between the ages of 20 and 45 years (except seamen and soldiers) who are sound of body and limbs, may be registered; that these persons shall pay after the rate of 1/- per week; that as soon as 1000 persons are so registered and have paid regularly for one year, any of them rendered incapable of working by sickness or lameness (the pox and plague or any other pestilential distemper excepted) shall receive 8/- per week and free medical treatment, but if certified as incurable, shall be absolutely discharged upon payment of 40/-; that the sum of £10 shall be paid at death and widows, having a son or daughter, may petition the Governors for putting out a son or daughter apprentice; it being designed to apprentice 10 such children for every 1000 entries.
