Description (What the record is about)

Folio 83. Sir Robert Walpole to [Newcastle]. Is informed that letters arrived last night from Jamaica which give an account of St. Loe's death and the island being all in arms, the militia raised and 105 merchantmen under an embargo, &c., for their defence, in consequence of the advice sent them of our apprehending an invasion from the Spaniards, which they think would have been contradicted from hence, if the alarm had been over. Believes it will be proper for his grace to come to town to explain this matter.
