Folios 61-62. Report of the Secretary at War from Whitehall, relating to sending an independent company to Placentia. There are no independent companies in America or any of his Majesty's plantations abroad that can conveniently be sent to relieve the company belonging to Colonel Philip's regiment of foot now at Placentia. . . . . . . . . . . . . It is not possible to answer what is proposed in the report from the Committee of Council [dated 22 May last] any other way than by turning one of the regiments now in the West Indies into independent companies, which is an entire change of the present establishments of the army in those countries. Colonel Gledhill, the Lt. Governor of Placentia is informed he is dismissed his majesty's service and ordered home to answer for his conduct. Officers upon the establishment of Nova Scotia and other plantations in America are ordered to repair to their respective posts. Referred to a committee, 14 Oct. 1729 and to the Secy. of State to receive his Majesty's pleasure 8 Dec. 1729.
