Folio 55. [Delafaye] from Kensington to Mr. Brodie. I did not receive till this day. . your letter of Saturday last . . . being indeed seldom at the Cockpit, for my lord Duke of Newcastle keeps his office at Kensington where he is always on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The affair of Mr. Innes stands thus: In May 1727 Mr. MacMillan, deputy-keeper of the Signet wrote for a commission for him to be writer of the Signet, which was accordingly sent . . . . . . . . by his Majesty's demise a new one was necessary this. . . . . was renewed without difficulty. The first notice I. . had of the objection to Mr. Innes was from what my Lord Advocate told me the day before his departure from Scotland. . . . . . . . . . I shall write to my Lord Advocate for his advice upon this case and to know what may be the proper method of recalling this second commission. Draft.
