Administrative / biographical background

From 1852, when diplomatic relations were first established with Paraguay, until 1941, the British Government was represented at Asuncion by the minister accredited to the Government of the Argentine Republic, except between 1859 and 1862, when relations with Paraguay were severed, and between 1868 and 1882 when there was no British representation in Paraguay. A British Embassy was established in Asuncion in 1954.
