Description

Particulars of accounts of the issues of the marshalsea of the king's household, and of the office of coroner of the household and the clerk of the market, including fines levied by the clerk of the market for infringement of the statutes concerning weights and measures. The great majority of the documents date from the period between about 1353 and 1465, but the earliest is for 1296 (E 101/256/3, a large roll of amercements before Walter de Beauchamp, steward of the household, for 24 and 25 Edward l) and the last from 1595. Most are estreats of fines and profits levied by the two officials. A few are records of proceedings before the marshalsea court (eg E 101/258/6, 24).
