Folio 122: Swann to [Arlington]. Got, with Carlisle, as far as Lübeck where he received advice that a letter from King to senate of Hamburg, together with detailed instructions from secretary [Sir John] Trevor to himself, relating to royal letter, had arrived [at Hamburg]; thus excused himself and returned to his post; had, earlier that day, had conference with deputies of senate when, as instructed, he tried to 'make them sensible of the King's kindnesse towards them', reminding them of their own interest in complying with what he had written; suggests 're-inforcinge of the company's charter would be the most pleasingh argument to induce them to it'.
