Folio 114: Resolution by burgomaster and senate of Hamburg. Referring to well-meant remonstrations made with them by English envoy extraordinary to Sweden [Charles Howard first earl of Carlisle] about composition between city and court [of assistants] of English merchant adventurers residing at Hamburg, they declare themselves ready to restore, by new covenant, status quo ante, in allowing and continuing them [merchant adventurers] 'the former old accord with its privileges, immunities, viz. to those only that are here residing and traffiquing for themselves, and their own trade, according to its dry letter, intent and meaning', if merchant adventurers abandon proceedings in England against them [city]; if, afterwards, court still find they have a just cause and intend to bring an action against them, this would have to be entered into 'within the Roman Empire, respectively in its highest court of justice or in the court of this citty'.
