Description

Folio 78: Swann to Williamson. Asks for any intelligence Williamson may have on any treaties, either concluded or afoot, between Emperor and German princes touching upon actions contemplated by France regarding Flanders; has only heard of resolution taken by princes' deputies at Cologne that they should act as mediators and that they were to wait for what will happen between England and Holland; [Hugue de] Terlon [French ambassador designate to Denmark en route to Copenhagen] and Amerongen, returning from Denmark to Holland, have told him in confidence, former on documentary evidence, that notwithstanding information imparted to them by Wurtz according to which electors have entered upon league to assist Emperor in recovering Flanders, no such alliance was yet concluded; Amerongen said 'that France if lett alone would go through with this conquest and that he feard the dreggs of the cüppe would be left for them [Dutch] to drinke'. Danish King, after his daughter's marriage, has left Glückstadt for Copenhagen, taking Gottorp in his way and bringing his daughter to her court there.
