Description

Folio 60: Morrice to Swann. Acknowledges Swann's letter of May 11/21 in which 'great complaint' was made about an unnamed member of the company at Hamburg together with a statement about factory's unkind attitude towards him, Swann; directs Swann [as deputy governor] to expel member in question from court [of assistants] forthwith; he, Morrice, also has bad reports about one Edmond Towse concerning whom he will let Swann have orders which will be 'more according to his merit then for his content', but if member complained of by him should be Towse, then, Swann is to remove him from court 'at present' and in due time 'a farther course' will be taken with him; if he is not identical with Towse, latter to be left alone until further orders whereas first-mentioned expulsion should be proceeded with; though Swann recommends English factory's business to him, he can only resent 'their unjust as well as unhandsome carriage' towards himself and therefore will not further 'meddle in their concernes, then to use such necessary security as may reduce them to reason and better order'. PS: (holograph): thanks him for his 'kindnesse and good affections'.
