Folio 57: Swann to [Arlington]. Encloses account of sinking of frigate Princess by Dutch [missing]; ships arriving from England brought false reports about peace between England and France; gives account of discussion with [Godard Adrian Reede baron van] Amerongen, Dutch ambassador to Denmark who was passing through Hamburg; Amerongen observed that Holland was resolved never to give satisfaction to England regarding damage and expenses of present war; Swann reminded him of great build-up of arms with which France was ready to overrun Brabant and thus become their closest neighbour and asked whether their animosity against England did not blind them to that danger, to which Amerongen, shrugging his shoulders, replied that it was too late to make peace with England, this should have been done six months ago; yet, they parted on terms of personal friendship. Wrangel let him know he was willing to speak with him, thus he intends paying him a visit.
