Citing incidents partly dating back to pre-interregnum years, when vessels were raided by David Murray of Caithness, and his brother, captain Gideon Murray, of Edinburgh, who entered their ships by force, helping themselves to their cargoes, such as fish and salt from Spain and Portugal, and to cash, armament, etc., shipped and carried by Anthony de Berg, Adolph Westerman, Claus Koster, Hans Heyman and Joachim Peylin. They, beside material losses, suffered between them damage amounting to 787 Reichsthaler. More recently, Hugh Craigie, of Orkney, was guilty of extorting excise for tobacco and brandy. Apply for redress for damage sustained, for bringing disturbers to justice, and for prevention of similar criminal offences.
