Description

Folio 106. Draft of a letter from Newcastle to Marshall Wade, enclosing: 1) a letter [the draft is f.126] to Sir John Cope or the commanding officer at Berwick on Tweed, informing him that a warrant had been issued to the bearer of the letter John Money, a government messenger, to take custody of Mr. Lockhart of Carnforth, who it is reported had joined the rebels in Edinburgh and to bring him and his servants to London for examination. Requests Cope to organise such a guard. 2) extracts of 2 letters from Lord Chesterfield and the bishop of Chester, relating to the Sinclair battalion lately arrived from Dublin. 3) a letter from Lord Albermarle, at Oudenbosch awaiting the arrival of the transports at Willemstad, which were then to embark with the 7 battalions destined for Newcastle upon Tyne. 4) a letter [copy now f.107] from Charles Stuart, at Flushing, dated 7 Oct., to the marquis of Tweeddale, with details of the reputed preparations being made at Dunkirk for 6 privateers to embark for Scotland, carrying troops, officers, arms and ammunition as well as the Pretender's second son. 5) a copy of a letter [original now f.112] from Lord Mark Kerr, dated 11 Oct., enclosing one [original now f.110] he had received from ?J. Cranstoun, a brother of Lord Cranstoun, dated at Crailing 5 Oct., with information on the rebels.
